Miami’s Staggering Crime Rates
Miami has one of the country’s highest crime rates in America compared to communities of all sizes. According to statistical evidence revealed by the FBI and U.S. Justice Department, the chances of becoming yet another victim of violent or property crime is 1 in 17. More than 90% of Florida’s communities have a lower crime rate than Miami and it is often considered one of the country’s most dangerous cities.
Much of the crime taking place is property crime, which includes burglary, larceny over $50, car theft and arson. The chance of becoming a victim of a property crime in Miami is 1 in 21. In 2015, there were 3726 burglaries and 14 664 recorded reports of theft. Car theft is one of the highest in the country according to FBI crime data. Property loss amounts to thousands of dollars each year.
